No. 45 UCDA P80/415

Handwritten memorandum from William T. Cosgrave to Desmond FitzGerald
(Dublin)

DUBLIN, undated, but probably 19231

M[inister for] External Affairs.
Re Appointment of Irish Rep[resentatives] abroad.
I don't know whether the High Com[missioner] is aware of the position of these Rep[resentative]s abroad. If not you will have to consider going over & personally seeing [the] Duke & giving [the] High Com[missioner] all the information at your disposal.

This is a business which requires careful handling. These2 Reps are generally poor stuff & while our national position must be safeguarded we can't have them making a mess of things.

L.T. MACCOSGAIR

1As there is no indication as to the date of this memo, it is inserted here because the text deals with topics similar to those addressed by Cosgrave here.

2 Could be 'Those'.
