Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet
(C.6/2)

Dublin, 12 March 1932

2. Oath of Allegiance.
It was decided that the Attorney General should submit heads of a Bill having for its object the removal of the obligation on members of the Oireachtas to take and subscribe to the Oath specified in Article 17 of the Constitution. It was agreed that it was not necessary that any intimation should be made to the British Government preliminary to the introduction of the Bill and that introduction should be deferred until the date of reassembly. In the meantime such expert opinion should be obtained as the President and the Attorney General might consider advisable.
