Translation
I take advantage of this great occasion to send to you and to your colleagues the hearty congratulations of the Irish Government. Ireland greets free India, rejoices with her and hopes fervently that in freedom the Indian peoples will achieve all their rightful aspirations and in the comity of nations be enabled to play the part their ancient civilisation and long suffering fit them for in shaping the destinies of mankind. The blessing of God and the Virgin Mary on the Indian peoples.

Éamon de Valera
Taoiseach
