My neutral colleagues are all of the opinion that air raids as at present carried out by British are brutal and inhuman. If several hundred aeroplanes release their bombs simultaneously over the same area, it is obvious that most will fall on civil population.

There is grave apprehension that what has happened to Hamburg may happen to Berlin. Diplomatic Corps has decided to remain and not to leave City unless Foreign Office do. Most missions are however endeavouring to get sleeping quarters outside City.

People here are very depressed what with air raids and worry over Eastern front.

It is interesting to note there has been as yet no definite statement of German attitude towards changes in Italy. Anglo American attitude towards Badoglio is quoted as object lesson to German people.
