Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet 'Air Transport Agreement with U.S.A.'
(G.C. 4/49)

DUBLIN, 25 January 1945

Consideration was given to a memorandum dated 25th January 1945,1 submitted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, relative to the question of a bi-lateral agreement on air transport with the U.S.A. The proposals set out in paragraph 19 of the memorandum were approved.2

The Government was notified that notes had been sent to the British and Canadian Governments informing them of the decision of the Irish Government to withdraw from the Transatlantic Air Agreement of 1935 between the Governments of the United Kingdom, Canada, Newfoundland and Ireland.

1 Not printed.

2 Paragraph 19 reads 'The Minister for Industry and Commerce accordingly recommends to the Government that they should approve of the conclusion of a Bilateral Agreement with the United States on air transport in the terms of the draft attached, the question of supplies and of traffic arrangements to be covered in an exchange of Notes. In the Minister's opinion it would be advantageous to this country's interests if this Bilateral Agreement were completed with the United States before a similar agreement is made between them and the United Kingdom and for that reason he regards the matter as one of urgency' (NAI DT S10325B).
