No. 130 NAI DFA Secretary's Files S22

Handwritten minute by Joseph P. Walshe (Dublin) on the termination of the appointment of the Governor General

Dublin, undated, but September 1932

Mr. Dulanty is to go to Balmoral to see the King in connection with the Submission advising the termination of the Governor General's appointment.

Mr. Dulanty in response to the desire of the King conveyed through Sir Clive Wigram is to explain that the publication of certain letters such as exchanged between the Governor General and the Government contrary to the advice of the Government has induced a state of strained relations, and that the situation is becoming daily more difficult.

The President is willing to accept the King's suggestion that the Governor General should be given an opportunity to resign, and he is ready to extend the date for the termination of the appointment to the 15th October provided the Governor General sends in his resignation by the 1st October.

If the King inquires about the appointment of a new Governor General Mr. Dulanty is to state that the Govt. can hardly make a selection before the New Year.
