(4) Read for President report from the Legation at Berlin dated 19th July on the recent article in a Berlin weekly, the 'Deutsche Wochenschau', alleging President's Jewish ancestry and association with Mr. Briscoe1 and the Jewish banking House in New York of Messrs. Kuhn, Loeb & Co. President decided that Legation at Berlin be directed to make a strong protest to the German Foreign Office in the terms of the last paragraph of Mr. McCauley's report of 17th July.2

1 Robert Briscoe (1894-1969), educated in Dublin at the Kildare Street National Schools; Christian Brothers School, Strand Street; Saint Andrew's Secondary School, and at Berlin. Veteran of the Anglo-Irish War, close associate of Michael Collins, took the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War, founder member of Fianna Fáil (1926), TD (Dublin South/South West, 1927-65) and twice Lord Mayor of Dublin.
