No. 228 NAI DFA 24/34
Dublin, 4 August 1934
Reverend Sir,
I am directed by the Minister for External Affairs to refer to your letter of the 1st instant, relative to the position of the Jewish Community in the Free City of Danzig.
In his capacity as High Commissioner for Danzig, Mr. Seán Lester is an official of the League of Nations, and not of the Government of Saorstát Éireann. In view of this circumstance, the Minister feels that it is not open to him to communicate directly with Mr. Lester with reference to the matters dealt with in your letter.
It is understood that Mr. Lester is at present at Danzig, so that a letter addressed to him at Danzig, or at the Secretariat of the League of Nations at Geneva, would, no doubt, reach him in due course.
I am, Reverend Sir,
Yours faithfully,
[stamped] (Signed) Seán Murphy
Secretary
