No. 70 NAI 2006/39
London, 26 July 1937
When I was last in Dublin the President said it would be well to make discreet inquiry on the subject of the forts in the north of Ireland because rumours had reached him that a certain amount of activity had been observed on Lough Swilly.
I have made discreet inquiry and I am told by the Dominions Office that the position is as follows:
At Forts Lenan and Dunree on Lough Swilly the only works now in hand for which the War Office have given approval and have allotted funds are:
(i) | Construction of a squash court (half the cost borne by the R.A. Games fund) ... £800 | |
(ii) | Construction of sanitary annexes | } £750 |
(iii) | Provision of boilers, etc. for hot water for ablution rooms ... |
