New York World's Fair, 1939

Preliminary enquiries, discussions and reports concerning Irish participation in the Fair made increasing demands on the time of the officers of the Consulate General as the year advanced. Numerous visits had to be made to the Fair Corporation's offices at the Empire State Building and also to the Fair site at Flushing, Long Island. Additional work arose from the necessity for dealing with letters and visits from engineers, designers, architects, publicity firms and other persons offering their services in connection with the Irish exhibit. The activities connected with the Fair made very heavy demands on the time of the Consul General towards the end of the period under review. In his capacity as Commissioner General for Ireland, he signed the contract reserving space on the 31st March, 1938.
