Frank drafted proposed Dáil statement by Chief,1 reviewing results of mission embodying main points your telegram 111,2adding that President undertook on April 7th to secure assurance from Churchill and that, despite repeated enquiries, assurance had not been forthcoming.3 Minister Plenipotentiary asked that statement be withheld until it should be shown to Congress friends. Draft shown yesterday to leading Congressmen and Senators who are very upset at prospect of publication, in particular about assurance. It is possible important Members of Congress may wait on President to secure assurance.
