No. 167  NAI DFA Secretary's Files P2

Personal code telegram from Joseph P. Walshe to Robert Brennan (Washington)
(No. 348)

DUBLIN, 23 December 1941

With regard to adverse press articles could you not take advantage of the press censorship to urge upon State Department that the very friendly attitude towards America here should be helped and fostered? Anti-Irish press articles only annoy and irritate. British have learned this and anti-Irish articles in British press have become exceedingly rare. Result has been great increase in sympathy for Britain.

An instruction in this sense to David Gray would help also as he naturally has great influence with American journalists visiting Ireland.
