Press reaction to invasion consistent with previous declarations on subject. The main general points made are (1) the decisive phase of the war has now been reached and Germany has within her power attainment of final victory (2) the fact that invasion has taken place explains and justifies withdrawal in Russia and in Italy in favour of defence in west. Press admits that other landings must be expected. To explain landings made, it says that Atlantic wall was not intended as impassable barrier but to obstruct landings sufficiently to give time to arrange for counter-measures.

Officials express satisfaction with military situation to date June 11th. They claim that France very calm and that population because of recent bombardments much less enthusiastic for Allies than the latter expected. This last appreciation seems too optimistic.
