No. 502 NAI DFA 419/44
BERNE, 1 November 1944
M. Donati, Italian Jewish refugee, Secretary, Jewish Association for Relief of Interned in Germany, called here on introduction of Italian Minister to request Irish Government to appeal to Germany with other neutral Governments for release of Jews interned, or at least old persons, women and children Poland, etc., who are, he said, in great danger. He said Nuncio reported his request to Vatican. Nuncio who took up matter on general grounds of humanity, informs me Vatican will do something and that he will let me know when definite reply received. I have not consulted Swiss authorities but I am informed they did not promise to take action. Donati urged urgency.
