Holy See, 5 March 1948
Your telegram 30.1 For B. Delighted to go. Will arrive March 13th. Please see my despatches February 21st February 25th.2 Assistance now, even a small amount, of immense value to cause and for our position at Holy See. Remember only a little over a month to election. Meeting with Minister very late for purpose. The situation is very grave. No normal consideration against should prevail. Transfer to Vatican account M.[unster] and L.[einster] Bank of even 4,000 or 5,000 would encourage and help Pope in his talks with representatives of other Catholic governments. If government powerless try Joseph McGrath.3
