No. 306 NAI DFA London Embassy F100/5/7
Dublin, 18 April 1949
I am very grateful for your Majesty's kind and gracious message of good wishes which, I assure your Majesty, will be warmly appreciated by the people of Ireland. On this occasion of such deep significance to the Irish nation, permit me to express to your Majesty my sincere good wishes for the peace and prosperity of Great Britain, with which Ireland has so many ties and such special relations.
I earnestly hope that these relations will continue and that our two countries may advance to a better and more cordial friendship. On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Ireland I pray that God may grant Your Majesty health and happiness.
