Dublin and London, 15 March 1951
[Rush] We have many enquiries here regarding the possibilities of adopting Irish children. The stock answer which the enquirers get is that there is no provision in Irish law for legal adoption. We have now been asked whether it is possible to adopt children who are Irish citizens in this country and in America under the respective Legal Adoption Acts in these countries.
Please state what is the position in cases of this kind.
[Rynne] You may inform querists that there is no Irish law prohibiting the adoption abroad of Irish citizen children.
