Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet
'Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Approval by Dáil Éireann and subsequent ratification.'

Dublin, 6 April 1951

Following consideration of a memorandum dated the 6th April, 1951,1submitted by the Minister for External Affairs relative to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms which was drawn up under the auspices of the Council of Europe and signed on behalf of the Government on the 4th November, 1950, the Minister was authorised

  1. to move for leave to introduce a Motion in Dáil Éireann, in the terms set out in paragraph 2 of the memorandum, seeking the approval of that House to the terms of the Convention; and
  2. to take, on behalf of the Government, such steps as might be necessary for the ratification of the Convention subsequent to Dáil approval.
