No. 260 NAI DFA/10/A/47
Dublin, 10 March 1954
As you know, Kerney is proceeding with his libel action in regard to Desmond Williams’ statements in his Neutrality series regarding the meetings with the Germans in Madrid in 1942. Whilst the Department is holding aloof from participation in this matter, we are taking the precaution of setting our house in order in case of necessity.
We have on file here some papers bearing the Madrid Legation reference SPC 19/4 and I should be glad if you could turn up this file and send it to me in the bag. You will find thereon copy of a report dated 24th August, 1942, giving an account of Mr. Kerney’s meeting with Herr Veesenmayer.
Miss Donnelly1 will doubtless be able to locate any relevant papers which would help us to complete our records.
