Security Council discussion on Hungary today was inconclusive owing to lack of reliable news. US agencies are warning editors that Nagy’s statements are not borne out by their reports. France and Britain want to use Hungary as smoke-screen but general feeling is rather against any UN action and to help Nagy who is just a crook trying to rehabilitate himself by gaining Western support. Perhaps best attitude for present one of reserve.
