Letter from Frederick H. Boland to Thomas J. Kiernan (Holy See)

Dublin, 20 September 1945

In the course of the Conference of Heads of Missions held in Dublin last week, the Secretary of the Department of Finance stated that his Department would be particularly interested to receive reports from the Missions abroad on the following subjects:-

  • The policy of the country concerned towards the Bretton Woods Proposals;
  • Any legislation or administrative measures taken in the country concerned to give effect to the Bretton Woods Proposals;
  • Legislation and administrative measures dealing with financial, monetary and central banking policy; and
  • Any international agreements dealing with payments, exchange questions or cognate monetary matters.

I am to request you to be good enough to bear in mind these indications given by the Secretary of the Department of Finance and to report to the Department on any developments of the kind outlined by Mr. McElligott in the country to which you are accredited.
