Letter from Leo T. McCauley to Francis T. Cremins (Berne)

Dublin, 14 June 1946

With reference to your minute of the 3rd inst. (reference No. 203/321) relative to the Japanese Consul General in Dublin, I am directed by the Minister to ask you to request the Swiss Government 'exceptionellement et a titre de bons offices' to transmit to the Japanese Government a message of which the following is the text:-

'Irish Government has received and taken note of message of Japanese Government stating Consul General Dublin no longer holds official position. This message and second message addressed to Consul General were communicated at once to Mr. Beppu. He has now requested assistance Irish authorities in arranging speedy repatriation self and wife and has stated that Consul Kazuo Ichihashi has taken charge Consulate General. Consul Ichihashi has informed Irish Foreign Office he has taken charge Consulate General temporarily pending return Japan with Mr. and Mrs. Beppu as previously instructed. Irish Government prepared afford all possible facilities repatriation and awaits suggestions of Japanese Government regarding travel.'
