Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet
'Appointment of Irish Consular Officers (Honorary and Career) Abroad'
(GC 4/305) (Item 1) (S9433)

Dublin, 21 November 1947

Following consideration of a memorandum dated 18th November, 1947,1 submitted by the Minister for External Affairs, it was decided

  1. to authorise the Minister for External Affairs to make such appointments, transfers and promotions to Consular posts as may appear desirable or expedient in the normal administration of his Department;
  2. to grant covering authority to the Minister for the appointments, transfers and promotions to Consular posts made since the enactment of the Executive Authority (External Relations) Act, 1936, as set out in the Schedule to the memorandum; and
  3. to authorise the Minister to appoint, as Honorary Consular representatives from time to time, such persons as may appear to him to be suitable.
