No. 317 NAI DFA Vatican Embassy 14/45/1

Cablegram from the Department of External Affairs to Charles Bewley (Rome)
(Copy)

Dublin, 12 December 1929

11th December. With reference to your telegram dated 10th December, and your telegram dated 11th December. Convey congratulations of Government to Holy Father. Suggest to Mgr. Robinson 14th January date of arrival and 15th January presentation of credentials. Should stay at the Shelbourne at least until official ceremony is over. If title desired should be following 'His Majesty George V King of Great Britain and Ireland and the Brittish Dominions Beyond the Seas, Emperor Of India'. Government opposed to idea of making Nuncio Apostolic Delegate for the Six Counties: would cause endless confusion and difficulties. They cannot object to the alternative which is a purely ecclesiastical arrangement.
