No. 440 UCDA P80/1411

Extract from a handwritten letter from Desmond FitzGerald to Mabel FitzGerald (Dublin)

London, 6 October 1930

[matter omitted]

Then to conference this afternoon.1 It was tough - but generally satisfactory. I did most of the talking - and at the end every Dominion came to congratulate me and Tody.2 As a matter of fact though the matter (Privy Council) looked bad for us in the beginning we got support in varying degrees from all Dominions. The other matter was married women's nationality - and of course just as the British thought that all was well I stated approximately the Thomistic position. This afternoon has been the nearest thing to thrilling since things began.

[matter omitted]

1 FitzGerald had been to a memorial service for Lord Birkenhead that morning and been interviewed by a journalist over lunch.

2 Patrick McGilligan.
