Dearg code telegram from Robert Brennan to Joseph P. Walshe (Dublin)
(No. 72)

WASHINGTON, 8 March 1944

Your telegram 51.1 I gave Note to Acting Secretary of State.2 He said we could not be sure. I said we were, and suggested he should go to Dublin and see for himself. He will try to do so. Perhaps you would invite him. He really wants to be friendly as his grandmother came from Ireland. He goes to London in a few days.

1 See No. 381.

2 Edward Reilly Stettinius (1900-49), Acting Secretary of State (1943-4), Secretary of State (1944-5).
