WASHINGTON, 20 September 1944

State Department informs us Press releases on reply of neutrals in matter of asylums war criminals is being held up awaiting reply from Ireland. Minister Gray was so advised yesterday. Statements have appeared in Press here to the effect that Argentine Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey have agreed American request. Pressed by Associated Press week ago for reply I said I had not instructions but I thought that they would not be welcomed in Ireland. This statement was not published so far as I have seen.
