Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet
'Proposed appointment of Trade Attachés abroad'
(GC 5/152) (Item 1) (S14612)

Dublin, 7 February 1950

Following further consideration of memoranda dated the 7th (2), 13th and 17th October, 1949, submitted by the Ministers for External Affairs, Agriculture, Industry and Commerce and Finance, respectively, and further memoranda dated the 14th and 16th January, 1950, submitted by the Ministers for External Affairs and Industry and Commerce, respectively,1 regarding the proposed appointment of Trade Attachés abroad, it was decided

  1. that two Trade Attachés should be appointed for the United States of America, one to be stationed at New York and the other at Chicago;
  2. that a Trade Attaché should be appointed for Europe; and
  3. that the two Trade Attachés for the United States of America and, if possible, the Trade Attaché for Europe should be recruited from the existing personnel in the Civil Service.
