Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your Confidential Despatch of the 28th June enclosing a copy of a telegram from His Majesty's Ambassador at Washington relative to the appointment of a Minister Plenipotentiary at Washington.

2. My Ministers note with pleasure that the American Government have agreed to accept a Minister Plenipotentiary from the Irish Free State. They will be glad if His Majesty's Ambassador is instructed by cable to ascertain from the American Government if they will accept Timothy Aloysius Smiddy in that capacity.

3. This Despatch confirms my telegram of 3rd July addressed to you.
