No. 236 NAI DFA Secretary's Files S28A

Telegram from the Department of External Affairs to Charles Bewley (Rome)

Dublin, 6 pm, 8 July 1929

8th July. Minister wishes you to use occasion of next visit to Vatican to tell Secretary of State that Government considers Dublin should get the red hat. Arguments Dublin real capital of Ireland and Irish Catholic Emancipation celebrations organised by Bishops brought out that fact. Hat always came to Dublin before Logue's time. Maynooth Ireland's great Clerical University beside Dublin. Would be regarded as fine gesture after Emancipation celebrations.
