No. 238 NAI DFA Secretary's Files S28A

Telegram from Charles Bewley to Department of External Affairs (Dublin)
(Copy)

Rome, 10 am, 9 July 1929

9th July. Secretary of State has returned to Rome. I will visit Vatican Friday next and communicate views of my Government as to claims of Dublin to Hat. General impression in ecclesiastical circles seems to be that personality of Archbishop is not considered suitable for Hat but I will use every endeavour to put forward your views and also about appointment of Nuncio. I propose leaving Rome 14th July as I have nearly completed necessary visits and Corps Diplomatique nearly all leaving. Please send cheque as requested. Ends.

Bewley
