Confidential Report from Count Gerald O'Kelly de Gallagh to Joseph P. Walshe
(Dublin)
(144/29)

Paris, 17 October 1929

Dear Walshe,

You will be interested to hear that the French Foreign Office have agreed to alter the designation of the British Embassy in the next number of the List Diplomatique, from 'Grande Bretagne et Irlande' to 'Grande Bretagne et Irlande du Nord'. I question myself whether 'Irlande du Nord' should figure at all in the title any more than do the various Crown colonies, etc. However it is preferable to have 'Irlande du Nord' rather than 'Irlande' tout court. In this connexion perhaps you might care to take steps while you are in London to have this erroneous designation of the British Embassy altered in other countries where we have no representative. I would be very interested to know what is happening in this matter in Rome and Berlin.

I confirm wire sent you as follows:-

'CREDENTIALS WILL BE PRESENTED SATURDAY 3-30'.

Yours sincerely,
[signed] Count G. O'Kelly de Gallagh
