At a Cabinet Meeting held this day it was resolved that a Special Committee on Foreign Appointments be set up forthwith consisting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the Minister of Trade, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Publicity and Dr Patrick MacCartan, to deal with diplomatic appointments abroad. Three to be a quorum. Appointments to be made subject to the sanction of the President and the matter of remuneration to the consent of the Minister of Finance.

The international network of Editors of Diplomatic Documents was founded in 1988. Delegations from different parts of the world met for the first time in London in 1989.
