Approval was given to the raising of the mission to the Holy See to the status of an Embassy and to the appointment of Mr. J. P. Walshe, Secretary, Department of External Affairs, as Ambassador.1
It was agreed that, when the Secretaryship of the Department of External Affairs became vacant on the appointment of Mr. Walshe as Ambassador to the Holy See, Mr. F. H. Boland, Assistant Secretary of the Department, should be appointed as Secretary.
