No. 286 NAI DFA ES Box 34 File 239

Extract from a letter from Charles Bewley to Ernest Blythe (Dublin)

Berlin, 18 May 1922 (received 23 May 1922)

A Chara,
[Matter omitted]
I also had a letter from a gentleman called 'Loewi' to the effect that a friend of his called 'Jacobowitz' is also anxious to dispose of 14 rooms in a good locality. I am not suggesting that the offer of Messrs. Loewi and Jacobowitz is one that should be accepted, as I think it likely that in any bargain with gentlemen of their ancestry we would not get the best of it. However it would be worth while considering the question of taking a house, as the mark may possibly rise, and although we could scarcely get possession of it at present owing to the German Emergency legislation, whenever the Government is formally recognised it would be able to get possession as being extra-territorial, and in the meantime it would be in the receipt of the rents by the present occupiers.

Mise le meas,
C.[harles] B.[ewley]

P.S. I have not gone into the matter in any detail, as I do not know what arrangements may be made as regards representation in Berlin after the election, and this matter may possibly be in the province of the diplomatic representative, but I thought it better to mention the matter to you.
